5.3 Empathy
"Empathy" is the hallmark of a good salesman. It is the ability to understand why a customer has a particular point of view without necessarily agreeing with him. A Salesman cannot afford the luxury of only dealing with people he agrees with, and with whom he is therefore in sympathy.
"I fully understand why you feel that our product does not perform to the same standard as that of your present supplier. Can we quickly review the relative merits of both products to see if we can find a way forward that will meet your requirements ?"
Never argue, and never tell the customer he is wrong. You will never win. Empathise, and win the order.
